Broken cooling system in server racks
Last week I saw how important an appropriate cooling system is in the server room. In our company in the big server room we have tons of different network equipment stored in server racks. The whole server room is a very modern place. Special devices are working on keeping a constant temperature and the humidity of air at the same level. So last week there was a malfunction of one of our servers and we went to check what could have caused it. Any of the instruments monitoring the server did not show anything wrong so we thought that there could be some short circuit that was responsible for that. When we opened the server racks we felt hot air and then we knew what has happened. The monitoring devices broke down and they showed constant temperature and humidity while one of the fans stopped working in order to which one server also broke down. The cooling system is one of the most important factors that make the whole server room work properly and sometimes it happens that few devices break down at the same time. Our management decided to install an additional monitoring system so that when one is not working the other one is. I think it is a good idea. After all it is better to pay now than to pay twice in the future when something will break down again.
